This photograph was taken in the wake of the 2020 pandemic. Six months after brain surgery, I finally felt confident enough to take my first solo trip beyond the familiar streets of my neighborhood. I chose a small town nearby, known for its cozy beaches and foggy mornings, and called an Uber to get there.
Even in late summer, the fog was thick, and though I arrived later in the morning, the sky still offered the moody atmosphere I was hoping for. The beach was a mix of sand and rocks, difficult to cross with the tide rolling in. I stepped into the ocean more than once and quickly regretted wearing boots—but the experience was worth it.
From this short trip came one of my favorite photographs, a reminder not only of the beauty of that morning but of the resilience I discovered in myself.
